Stubbington
Residential village with strong community identity, set between Fareham and the Solent coast
Stubbington is a large village between Fareham and Lee-on-the-Solent in south Hampshire. It sits on gently rising ground about a mile inland from the Solent coast, and its position between the two larger settlements has shaped its character as a residential community with a strong village identity. The village centre clusters around the crossroads where Stubbington Lane meets Gosport Road and Titchfield Road. A small parade of shops, a post office, pubs, and a village green give Stubbington a traditional centre that many larger places lack. The village has a primary school, a medical centre, churches, and an active community association that organises events through the year. Stubbington's agricultural past is still visible in the lanes and hedgerows around the village, though much of the surrounding farmland has been developed for housing since the 1960s. To the south, the open fields between Stubbington and Hill Head offer walking routes down to the coast, where the Solent Way long-distance path runs along the shore. Hill Head harbour, a small tidal inlet at the mouth of the River Meon, is within easy reach. The village falls within the borough of Fareham and is served by bus routes connecting to Fareham town centre and Gosport. There is no railway station, but Fareham station is a short drive or bus ride away. Stubbington has a reputation as a settled, family-friendly community, and local residents are active in preserving the village character against pressure for further development.
