Waterlooville Area Guide
Waterlooville is a large suburban town north of Havant, positioned on the main road from Portsmouth to London. The town takes its name from the Battle of Waterloo, commemorated by the local pub that gave the settlement its identity. From a small crossroads community, Waterlooville grew rapidly in the post-war decades and is now a town of over 60,000 people.
The town centre has undergone significant change, with the opening of the Waitrose superstore and other retail developments shifting the commercial focus. Wellington Way provides the main pedestrianised shopping street, with a mix of national chains and independent retailers. The Meridian Leisure Centre serves the town with swimming, fitness, and sports facilities.
Waterlooville's position gives it good road access via the A3(M) to London and the A3 to Portsmouth. Havant station, a few miles to the south, provides rail connections to London Waterloo and the coastal towns. The town is close to the Queen Elizabeth Country Park on Butser Hill, one of the best outdoor recreation sites in Hampshire.
The housing stock is predominantly post-war, with extensive estates of semi-detached and detached houses, and newer developments continuing to expand the town boundaries. Property prices are generally below those of the coastal towns, making Waterlooville popular with families who value space and affordability.
