The Gosport Ferry is a passenger ferry service crossing Portsmouth Harbour between the Gosport ferry terminal and Portsmouth Harbour station. The crossing takes approximately four minutes and has been in operation in one form or another for over five hundred years, making it one of the oldest continuous ferry services in Britain. The modern service uses purpose-built catamaran ferries running at frequent intervals throughout the day and evening. The ferry is the most direct route between Gosport and Portsmouth, and for many Gosport residents it is the primary means of reaching Portsmouth city centre, the Historic Dockyard, Gunwharf Quays, and the railway station. The crossing offers close-up views of warships at their berths in the naval base, harbour traffic, and the waterfront on both sides. The Gosport terminal is on the waterfront at the foot of the High Street, and the crossing connects to the Millennium Promenade, the Royal Submarine Museum, and the town centre. On the Portsmouth side, the terminal is adjacent to the railway station, the Hard interchange, and the entrance to the Historic Dockyard.
