Gunwharf Quays

undefined, Solent News

Gunwharf Quays is a waterfront retail and leisure complex in Portsmouth, built on the site of the former HMS Vernon naval shore establishment. The development opened in 2001 and has become one of the most visited destinations on the south coast, combining designer outlet shopping with restaurants, bars, a cinema, a bowling alley, and the Spinnaker Tower. The site's naval heritage is reflected in its layout and naming. HMS Vernon was the Royal Navy's torpedo and mine warfare school from 1876 until its closure in 1996, and several of the original buildings were incorporated into the new development. The waterfront promenade offers views across Portsmouth Harbour to Gosport, and the marina berths visiting yachts and motor boats. Gunwharf Quays is adjacent to Portsmouth Harbour railway station and the ferry terminals for Gosport and the Isle of Wight, making it one of the most accessible waterfront destinations in the region. The mix of shopping, dining, and entertainment draws visitors from across Hampshire and beyond.
