Historic Dockyard Portsmouth

Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is the home of the National Museum of the Royal Navy and one of the most important naval heritage sites in the world. The dockyard has been in continuous use since 1495 and remains an active naval base, but a significant portion is open to the public as a museum complex housing some of Britain's most celebrated historic ships. The flagship attractions are HMS Victory, the Mary Rose Museum, and HMS Warrior 1860, Britain's first iron-hulled, armour-plated warship. Together they span nearly four centuries of naval history. The surrounding museum buildings cover subjects from the Battle of Trafalgar to the Falklands War, and include the Action Stations interactive centre, Boathouse 4 with its collection of small craft, and the Dockyard Apprentice exhibition in the original ropery buildings. The dockyard's Georgian and Victorian buildings are of architectural interest in their own right, with ropewalks, storehouses, and dry docks dating from the eighteenth century. An all-attractions ticket provides entry to all museums and ships, and is valid for repeat visits over twelve months.
