A27 (Chichester to Arundel)
Street guide, Solent News
The A27 east of Chichester is one of the most contentious roads in southern England. The section between Chichester and Arundel remains single carriageway, creating a bottleneck on the main south coast route. Traffic queues through the villages of Fontwell and Walberton are a daily frustration for commuters and freight. Multiple bypass schemes have been proposed and debated over decades, but none has been built. The road connects the Chichester area to Arundel, Worthing, and Brighton, and its upgrade is a long-standing campaign issue for local communities.
