Hill Head Road
Street guide, Solent News
Hill Head Road runs south from Stubbington village to the small coastal settlement of Hill Head on the Solent shore. It is the main route to one of the quieter and less developed stretches of the Hampshire coast, where a shingle beach looks out across the Solent toward the Isle of Wight. The road transitions from village to coast over about a mile, passing through residential areas before reaching the seafront. Hill Head itself is a small community centred on the coast, with a sailing club, a pub, and direct access to the beach. The area is popular with walkers, birdwatchers (Titchfield Haven is nearby), and sailors. The road ends at the seafront, where a small car park serves visitors. The beach is shingle with some sand at low tide and offers views west toward the Meon estuary. Hill Head Road is a quiet route most of the year, but summer weekends and fine weather can bring significant numbers of visitors to the beach, filling the small car park and lining the road with parked cars. The road has a suburban-to-coastal character that is typical of many small Solent settlements, moving from built-up areas to open views of the sea in a short distance. It is a road that rewards the journey, ending at one of the Solent's most peaceful beaches.
