Marine Parade, Lee-on-the-Solent
Street guide, Solent News
Marine Parade is the seafront road running along the coastline at Lee-on-the-Solent, stretching from the sailing club at the western end to Browndown at the eastern end. It is the defining road of the town, separating the residential streets from the beach, promenade, and Solent views. The road is lined with a mix of post-war housing, flats, and a handful of older buildings. The promenade side of Marine Parade features the town's main open space, with views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight that are among the best on the Hampshire coast. The seafront shelters, memorial gardens, and the distinctive tower of the former HMS Daedalus control tower are all landmarks along the route. The road provides access to seafront parking, which is popular with visitors in summer. Marine Parade is the heart of Lee-on-the-Solent's identity as a seaside town. Walking, cycling, and driving along the seafront is a daily ritual for many residents. The road hosts occasional events and is the route for the town's carnival procession. In winter, it can be exposed to strong south-westerly winds, and wave overtopping occasionally affects the road. The views of sunsets over the Solent from Marine Parade are widely considered among the finest in Hampshire.
