Stoke Road, Gosport
Street guide, Solent News
Stoke Road runs south from Gosport town centre through the Alverstoke area, connecting the main shopping district with the residential suburbs on the southern side of the peninsula. It is a busy local road with a mix of shops, takeaways, and community facilities along its northern section, transitioning to residential streets further south. The road leads toward Alverstoke, one of Gosport's more attractive areas, with its village green, historic church, and proximity to Stokes Bay beach. Alverstoke has a distinct identity within Gosport, retaining a village feel with older properties and a conservation area. Stoke Road is the main link between this area and the town centre. Stoke Road is also the route toward the former Royal Naval Hospital Haslar, one of the most significant historic buildings in Gosport, now being redeveloped as a mixed-use site. The Bay House School, one of Gosport's secondary schools, is located off Stoke Road. The road carries steady local traffic throughout the day, with buses serving the route regularly. It is a typical urban through-route that connects different neighbourhoods and provides the commercial spine for the southern part of the town.
